    The new Transitions® Gen S™ lenses provide several enhancements over the previous Gen 8™ lenses. They offer better vision quality and adapt to light faster, darkening more quickly outdoors and clearing indoors in around 2 minutes. Gen S™ lenses are ultra-responsive to light, reaching category three darkness in just 25 seconds and offering a 39% faster recovery from intense bright lights compared to clear lenses. Additionally, they are fully clear indoors and introduce a vibrant Ruby Red color option, along with six other stylish colors. These improvements ensure a continuous visual experience, harmony with varied light environments, and improved long-lasting performance over time.

    Transitions® Gen S™ lenses become fully clear when indoors and not exposed to UV light. Transitions® XTRActive® lenses retain a slight tint indoors for additional blue light protection.
  • Can Transitions® lenses function as both glasses and sunglasses?

    Yes, Transitions® lenses act as regular glasses indoors and darken into sunglasses when exposed to sunlight, making them a convenient all-in-one solution. However, it is important to note that not allTransitions® lenses will darken behind the windshield of a car due to the UV protection provided by the windshield. For darkening in cars, XTRActive® lenses are recommended.
  • Do Transitions® lenses work in the car?

    XTRActive® lenses activate behind the windshield, offering additional darkening for better visibility while driving. Gen S lenses do not darken behind the windshield.
  • What protective benefits do Transitions® lenses provide?

    UVA/UVB Protection: Both Gen S and XTRActive® lenses provide complete protection by blocking 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

  • Are Transitions® lenses suitable for nighttime use?

    Yes, most Transitions® lenses can be worn at night since they remain clear without exposure to UV light.
  • How does temperature affect Transitions® lenses, and what lenses are best for achieving darker color in hot temperatures?

    Temperature influences the reaction time of the photochromic molecules in the lenses. In colder conditions, the lenses take longer to transition from dark to clear. Conversely, in warmer temperatures, the lenses react more quickly, fading back to clear faster when moving from sunlight to shade. XTRActive® lenses perform exceptionally well in hot temperatures, providing comfort and clarity by darkening more than Gen S lenses.
  • Do Transitions® Gen S™ or XTRActive® lenses offer polarization?

    Neither Transitions® Gen S™ nor XTRActive® lenses are polarized. However, both types achieve Category 3 darkness, ensuring comfort in bright outdoor conditions while offering protection against UV and blue-violet light. XTRActive® lenses are also designed to retain Category 3 darkness in hotter temperature climates, providing consistent performance and enhanced comfort in various environments.
  • Do Transitions® lenses work in all frames?

    Yes, Transitions® lenses are available in various materials and designs, fitting most types of frames, including full-rim, semi-rimless, and rimless styles.
  • Can you get Transitions® lenses with progressive or bifocal glasses?

    Yes, Transitions® lenses are available with progressive and bifocal (lineless) lens types. Please note that line bifocals are only available with our Clr2Drk photochromic lenses.
  • How long do Transitions® lenses last?

    Transitions® lenses generally last as long as the average lifespan of a pair of glasses, approximately three years. Signs of aging include a yellowish hue and reduced darkening capability in full sunlight.
  • Do you need a prescription for Transitions® lenses?

    No, Transitions® lenses can be added to non-prescription clear lenses, allowing you to enjoy their benefits even if you don't need vision correction.
